Motherwort & Chamomile Herbal Tea
Whilst all women want regular pain, free periods unfortunately that’s not the case for many women. Motherwort and Chamomile Tea is an excellent remedy for women and girls who suffer with irregular periods particularly in the case of periods being late for reasons other than pregnancy.
Late periods can be caused by many things such as stress, birth control, conditions such as PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), weight gain and peri-menopause for example. Motherwort and Chamomile Tea can help relieve pain and encourage menstruation.
Motherwort is an emmenagogue and a uterine tonic which can help to regulate menstruation, bring on delayed periods and relieve premenstrual tension and discomfort. Motherwort may help ease menstrual pain by both reducing spasms in the uterus and improving blood flow to the pelvis. Chamomile’s relaxant, sedative and antispasmodic properties can help to relieve symptoms associated with PMS and menstrual pain and cramping. Also, due to its relaxant and sedative properties Chamomile is excellent in helping to balance mood and ease feelings of PMS.
Blue Cohosh is a uterine tonic that can be helpful in reducing menstrual pain and bring on late or delayed periods. It can also increase blood flow in women where periods are light causing additional cramping. Goldenseal is often used in remedies for women with heavy or painful periods. Ginger is an excellent herb for women, particularly if suffering with late periods or period pains and cramping as Ginger can help bring on blood flow and its natural pain relieving properties can help with cramping and menstrual pain.
INGREDIENTS
115g (8 tablespoons) - Motherwort Herb (Leonurus Cardiaca)
85g (6 tablespoons) - Chamomile Flowers (Chamaemelum Nobile)
60g (4 tablespoons) - Blue Cohosh Root (Caulophyllum Thalictroides)
15g (1 tablespoon) - Goldenseal Root (Hydrastis Canadensis)
7g (1 teaspoon) - Ginger Root (Zingiber Officinalis)
INSTRUCTIONS
Mix all of the herbs together.
Add 2 tablespoons of the mixed herbs to 1 ½ pint of boiling water.
Simmer for 5 minutes.
Strain the liquid.
Allow to cool.
Bottle and store in a cool place.
DOSAGE
Take ¼ of a cup 3 to 4 times per day.
SIDE EFFECTS
Although most herbs are generally considered safe to use there is the slight possibility of allergic reactions or adverse reactions when used with other medication although this is rare.
Motherwort and Blue Cohosh are not advised for use if pregnant or breastfeeding and also for people taking blood thinners, aspirin, garlic, willow bark, vitamin E in supplement form, or people with clotting disorders.
Chamomile is considered safe for general use but should not be used during pregnancy due to its uterine properties which could induce miscarriage. Also people taking prescribed sedative medications such as benzodiazepines and anticoagulant medication such as warfarin should consult their doctor before using Chamomile. Goldenseal is considered safe to use but in rare cases it can cause irritation in the mouth and throat and digestive issues.
Ginger is generally considered safe to use but should not be used in large doses particularly if pregnant or on blood thinning medication.
